How to End a Meltdown

If you have had a conversation with me over the past two weeks, you'll know that I have not been, uh, well, let's just say, I've been crabby. No matter what I did, things just kept sliding down hill. If I tried harder, I fell harder. If I tried to blow things off, they fell to pieces.

What was the secret to ending the meltdown? DAWN! Dawn is one of my most unique friends - we were on the same corporate team when we worked for MCI, MCI WorldCom, WorldCom, MCI, Verizon the phone company. We didn't have many opportunities to see each other, but spoke to each other on the phone, and via IM & E-mail, for endless hours. We are like soul-sisters. She is my complete opposite in many respects, and a twin at the same time. She has skills in all of the areas that I have opportunities. Together we are in balance.

Dawn has been traveling to Norfolk for a few weeks for work, so I took advantage of a weekend away. I drove up on Friday night, enjoyed a good dinner and great conversation, and I could feel the funk dissipating. The kicker was what we did Saturday -- SHOPPED! AT A MALL! I must have looked like I HAD BEEN stranded on an island for a few years. "OH! Look! Pottery Barn!" "YAY! Barnes & Nobel!" "AH HA! Bath & Body!"

Living here on the Outer Banks has damaged my shopping gene. Our big stores are Wal-Mart and Kmart. That's what we have. Well, we have a Belk, which is kinda like JP Penney, but that's about it.

Special kudos to Dawn for helping me shake off the blues. You, my friend, are pure yellow :-)

This week I am hosting a visit with my boss, which is going OK so far. He sees how hard I am working, and many of the advertisers that we have visited with have said some really nice things about me. He leaves tomorrow, and then I can move on to more pressing issues which include pulling together my next magazine, and preparing for the cruise. Start sending your prayers now.

My pleasure - of course most of you know I live in Atlanta where there is NO shortage of malls. What did I do? I practically bought something in EVERY store we stepped into. I think I was the one deprieved - good grief. It barely fit in my suitcase flying back home.

Had the best time. If you all ever need to find the PERFECT platonic person to share a hotel room and a day - it's Col. Even though she wore me out. Hope we can do it again soon - Ms Yellow
