Friend Mixing

Some people do it. Personally, I'm not a fan. Part of the human spirit longs to meet & greet. I like meet new people, especially NICE people. I do have a hard time, however, with mixing my social groups.

For example, I am going to dinner with some friends this week. One of the friends from the group invited someone else to join us. I know the person that's the invitee's-invitee, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I want this person there. I like to keep my groups neat. I know what they know about me. I know that the original group all digs each other. The original group can be trusted with the information that may slip out after a few hearty laughs and a couple of bottles of wine. I don't know if the new kid can be trusted, and that puts a mild damper on my excitement.

I feel a smidge bad about being so selfish. After all, I am trying to develop some friendships here on the beach. I'm sure that she is, too. I will welcome her and be friendly, and hope that no one else minds.

Friend mixing is a weird dynamic. Chip likes to invite everyone along for everything. Fire Dept. friends with softball friends with family with people from the neighborhood. It makes me crazy. For instance, I don't particularly like to have my neighbors over if we have friends in town. My friends know things that my neighbors should not. Make sense? If I'm having a Pampered Chef party, friend mixing is appropriate because there are lots of distractions and I could stand to make some money off of it.

Anyway, it was just a thought that popped into my head so I thought I'd throw it out there. What do you think?

Since no one else is... I will
I'm torn on this because I feel the subject is coming up for me. I was all looking forward to going to Laurie Stoppiellos X-mas party, hers was the first invite for the15th, others followed. Now she says all the peopleI would know have declined and that Im not going to know anyone but her! Im now tempted to stop by her party, then move on to another one. What do you think?

Well, Laurie S is a good friend. Stop by and see how it goes! Go with an open mind and see what happens... or make Sue go with you!! It might be a good experience! If it sucks, you can bolt and still feel like you did the right thing.
