Although barely unpacked after the cruise, I managed to RE-pack and head to Baltimore this weekend to attend the baby shower for my niece, Jamie. (That's Aunt Mabes in the back helping)
Phil and Jamie are expecting a bouncing baby boy in February, and we are so excited for them. She had a whole weekend of people gawking at her, rubbing her belly, and making the occasional, "You look like you swallowed a basketball" comment.
If you recall, Jamie and Phil were unable to attend the cruise-fest-from-Hell, so it's only right that she was able to make-up some missed family time (sorry for you, Jame).
I must say that Jamie is an amazing woman. When I first met her, she was so small. Well, small but BRIALLIANT. She knew what she liked, had a sense of what she considered acceptable, studied hard, had good friends, and she liked me. What more could the new GF ask? It was Jamie that offered the first dating advice, "When you cook dinner for Uncle Chippy, do not make red meat. He doesn't like that." Duly noted.
Jamie is beautiful. It doesn't matter if she's been on the beach all day or just crawled out of bed. She has one of those pretty faces that make other girls jealous. She a snappy dresser and has a quick-thinking, passionate, fair mind. I hate her. Just kidding.
She is carrying her pregnancy so well, and her happiness radiates from all angles. Chip and I gave her a bundle of clothes, some gift cards so she & Phil can purchase what they want, Pee-Pee Tee-Pees, a Boo-Boo Bunny, and a book called, "Even Firemen Go Potty." I am truly looking forward to meeting my first great-nephew. OK, now THAT just doesn't sound right at all!!
Best of everything to Jamie & Phil. May your new son have the quick wit and charming nature as Chip, the hard-working attributes of Pop, the sense of humor and dashing stylings of Matthew, the patience of David, the musicality of Jay, and the dead-on smarts of Phil. Oh yeah, and may he like me a bunch.
