The Atlantic Assault 11/09

Well, well, well. I FINALLY have my first experience with with a BIG Outer Banks Nor’Easter, and all I can say is WOWZA. That is some crazy, ass-kickin, windy, rain-fall-forever kind of thang! Luckily, everything at our house is fine. We didn’t have a drop of water sneak into the house… nothing blew away… no buckets of sand in the driveway. It was actually kind of exciting, in a creepy kind of way. If it wasn’t for my Facebook friends posting pictures, videos and updates, I’d have no way of knowing what was really going on.

Not everyone had the same good fortune as we did.

This is “Serendipity” from the movie Nights in Rodanthe. It was THE most photographed home in the storm. We’ve all been waiting for her to fall into the ocean, but she’s strong. Maybe too strong? Those of you that have been to Rodanthe (pronounced Ro-dan-thee) have seen the long line of dunes that protect Highway 12 as you come into town. Well, they are pretty much gone now. The road has buckled and traffic is being moved by 4WD on the sand Soundside.

Here are a few links to some really great pics from Hatteras Island by Don Bowers and Bryan Elkus. Check ‘em out!

Enough of the excitement. I need some DOWN TIME!
