Long Lost Treasure

No, not this kind, but close.

As most of you know, Chip's Aunt Mabel came to live with us at the compound our house, soon after her husband passed away. That was 2 years ago.

Since then, Chip's niece, Jamie, and her husband, Phil, have purchased Mabel and Cliff's house. It's a HUGE Ranch-style house, but was in need of some TLC and personalization. They've done the customary painting, redecorating, and repairs, and have probably stumbled upon some pretty hideous once-treasured things.

This weekend, we got a call from Jamie, "We've unearthed some treasure." As it turns out, they found an old coffee can in the back of the basement on a shelf. Where else would an old couple hide their valuables?? Personally, I would have been too afraid to open it, but that's just the chicken in me coming out.

Inside the can were tons of old coins (um, old VALUABLE coins) and a wedding & engagement ring! Now, I get why you might have some old coins laying around, but how did the rings get in there?

We asked Aunt Mabel about the can, and she can't pin down the owners of the rings without seeing them. She thinks they may be the rings that were given to her by her practice husband (aka FIRST husband). As for the coins, these are the exact coins that were presumably missing after a repairman was at the house doing some work... many, many years ago.

"Did you accuse the man of stealing them?"

You bet cha! (Lovely.) You know me, I suggested that an apology was in order, even if it was long past due. We'll see if THAT happens!

Anyway, next time you are rummaging in your basement, be on the lookout for valuables left in weird places. Who knows, you may just find a little something! Good luck!
