Unless you have been under a rock, you know that there is a HUGE fire burning nearby. Forestry officials say that the wildfire in 3 Eastern North Carolina counties has burned nearly 31 thousand acres. This photo is from the News & Observer. The article reports that the fire is presently the largest such fire in the United States. This thing has been burning for some time now.
This morning, this was the view from our back deck, as it has been for the past week when the wind is blowing our way:
Picture yourself standing next to a bonfire, with the wind in your face. The smell of smoke is enough to make you choke. Couple that with the heat and you can imagine what the air feels like when you breathe. Coughing, watery eyes, and headaches are the common complaints of Locals and visitors.
Coming to visit? Be prepared!
