OBX Eats: Great Cakes

Spring Greetings, Foodies!

I know this is the season to break out the flip-flops and shorts, and then worry about what hibernation has done to your body. Before you get all depressed and head to the gym for a membership you may use for a few weeks, let me just tempt you with a little sweet treat… cake.

I have to enter a disclaimer here: I normally don’t go for the sweet stuff. On occasion, when the moon is right, I claim to be a cheesecake aficionado and Crème Brule taste tester. I will always, however, sample a cupcake. Or 4.

Great Cakes has been a well-known wedding cake business for many years. (As a matter of fact, Marsha Johnson, the owner, created my wedding cake a few years ago! I’d love to tell you that it was delicious, but I didn’t get to eat any of it. My friends and family raved about it though. Humph.)

The good news is that Marsha just opened a real bakery! (Insert hoots and hollers here -> ___) When I tell you that they have everything, I mean it. Cakes, cupcakes, croissants, pastries, cookies… oh, and coffee and ice cream. The day I stopped in, I bought muffins for everyone at work, along with some of her Key Lime Bliss mini-cupcakes. That day, I was a hero. J
Anywho, if you’re looking for yumminess, go right to Great Cakes. Whether you need a wedding cake, party snacks, favors, or anything else,  I know they’ll take great care of you.

Eat Local. Always.
