This time it’s poor Mabel.
On Wednesday night, Mabel said her stomach was bothering her. That’s not totally unusual, but by 11:00pm she was on her way to the ER. At 6:00pm on Thursday she was being transporter to a real hospital in Chesapeake, VA. Today is Saturday, and here we sit.
Mabes has some type of bowel obstruction that could be a kink in the bowel, could be a twist in the bowel, could be whatever in the bowel, but the bowel is not right. Basically, nothing is coming out. She has a tube up her nose that goes down into her belly and it sucks out all the gross stuff in there. (Side note, my FIL took a poll when we were in the OBX hospital, and asked if anyone would drink the output for a million dollars. It is shocking to learn how many people would do it.) This tube means that she cannot have anything to eat or drink.
Let that sink in. Today is Saturday. She hasn’t had ANYTHING to eat or drink since Wednesday at 6:00. The idea of starving the intestines to make them contract and push out whatever is in there makes sense in my head. But, damn, it’s cruel.
She also has all kinds of wires and whatnot connecting her to the machines that track her vitals. She is miserable.
Now we wait. We wait for poop to appear, or wait for her to get worse, or we wait a few days to delay the surgery that will surely cause more drama on the backside.
Fingers and toes crossed, people. Send up an extra prayer.

Your FIL has dropped to a new low, well maybe. That's really nasty...
