The Winds of Change a Blowin'

I have a hard job that I really like. I sell advertising and publish a real estate sales magazine. I have MANY great clients and always look forward to visiting with them while I tell them about the features and benefits that we are offering. It's a hoot to drop in and hear all the industry news, and who's doing what... except when the subject turns to hard times and friends losing their homes to foreclosure.

About 10 years ago, there was a housing boom on the OBX. My friends in the real estate industry bought and bought and bought, and now they are giving it all back.

The economy has hit the area in a hard way. It may be just as hard in other areas, but our community is so small I seem to be more aware of it. When your client base has no money, they can't advertise. If they can't advertise, they can't gain new listings, and they have a very hard time selling what they have. You can't buy what you can't find.

I have been struggling for a long while. Every day day that I don't come home with a sale feels like a failure. It's exhausting to paddle up stream, and I find that I care more about other people's business than they do.

This week things may change. Keep your fingers crossed for me! I'll keep you posted!
