I managed to get off the beach this weekend and escape to the bestest place ever – The Jersey Shore. It’s not that I think “the shore” (as we call it) is the best place, it just happens to be where my peeps are.
I started the weekend with a visit to my brother’s house so I could spend some time with my nieces.
This is Jordan. She’s 4. Notice the big-ass band-aid on her coconut. Only my brother’s child would whack her forehead by running into a pole at school. She was very brave and got 4 stitches. (PS- I have to say, this picture makes me want to spend more time on photography. I have been so lucky to always get a great shot that makes me FEEL how happy she is)
Here’s the little chicky, Devynn, playing with my Blackberry. At one point, my Dad called her (while standing right next to her) and she held it to her ear and walked around with the phone to her ear like she was a big shot.
I could eat her up! Just look at that face!
Saturday was a fun-filled day of more little girls & a few, select big girls!
In the morning, I was off to watch Valerie and Katherine play soccer. I took off with Katherine to find her team because we were already 5 minutes late. “Look for the blue team,” Sue (mom) said. Well, hell. There was no blue team to be found. Katherine said, “Where’s my team?” “I have no idea. You’re the kid. I’m new at this. I don’t know this works!” It turns out that everyone was just more late than we were.
Trying to watch 2 kids, on 2 different teams, is impossible. I don’t know how parents do it. Valerie asked me to watch her first, “… ‘cause I miss you and never get to see you anymore…” Ouch. They both did a great job and I’m so happy that I had a chance to cheer for them and watch them play! (I’ll leave out the part that we were kicking the ball around and I accidently kicked the ball into the same man about 5 times. They thought that was really funny. Their mom did not :-)
Saturday evening was all about big girl (aka no-kids) fun! For Laurie’s birthday, we headed to NYC to grab dinner and a show. Sounds very girly and hip, no? We ate at an Italian restaurant, drank a few bottles of yummy wine (anyone remember what it was?) and headed over to the theater to see “Rock of Ages.”
Missing from this picture is Sheryl, who was paying for parking, and me. Urgh.
Huh! Look at that! I can tilt pictures! Sorry, I digress.
The show was great, we laughed and sang A LOT, and I didn’t get thrown out for trying to use my camera in the theater. Whew.
All in all, this was a GREAT trip! Hopefully I can find a way to make it back again soon.
Love you all,

a few thoughts I had as I read:
1. Jordan could be your child, with the whole walking thing.
2. I am amazed that you made it to the shore and back without a nasty travel story. How did that happen?
3. Next stop, you need to head to Charleston!
