Key West

This past weekend Chip and I spent a few days in beautiful Key West, Florida. Although Chip says that it wasn't a honeymoon, I have a feeling it's the last time we'll be by ourselves for a while, so I'm going to say it was. If we go on another Honeymoon at some point, then YAY for us!

CIMG0449We stayed at the The Pier House Hotel and Spa, right at the end of Duvall Street, near the corner of Mallory Square. The room was nice, but Chip felt it was over-priced. What we paid for was a good room that had a private beach and was within walking distance to everything... that has value to me!

We did all of the traditional things like visit the Butterfly Conservatory, walked all of Duvall Street (commonly called the "Duvall Crawl") which runs from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico, and watched the street performers at Mallory Square, where people gather to watch the sunset.

It was at Mallory Square where I unintentionally volunteered Chip to CIMG0395be a part of an act where a big dog runs up and snatches money our of your mouth. Needless to say, the dog bit Chip on the nose, and Chip was NOT happy.

CIMG0455We also took a boat ride to Sunset Key, a private island, for dinner at a restaurant called Latitudes. It was quite yummy, and I had the pleasure of enjoying Carpaccio for the first time! I'm not kidding, it was SO good!

On a more sour note, the heat in the Keys was oppressive and I had a really hard time staying hydrated and keeping my temperature regulated. One night, I got all dressed-up for dinner, and by the time we walked the seven blocks to Blue Heaven (which turned into 10 blocks because we missed the turn when we were distracted by the Drag Queens) and waited the 45-60 minutes for our table, I was about to get sick or pass out... or both. We never even ordered a drink at the table. We sat down, Chip looked at me and suggested we leave, and we did just that. I tried to tough it out, but it was NOT a good scene. Have I mentioned how tolerant my husband is???

Despite the fact that my luggage was ripped on the way home, that my shampoo exploded all over everything, and that at 41 I still haven't mastered the use of sunblock (can you say SUNBURN?!) I had a really nice time.

Next time we hit Key West we'll be doing it with a group. This way, the boys can stare off the balcony at the topless beach below our room, and the girls can shop till we drop!

Cheers!
